Cox Family Medicine Residency hosts 3rd & 4th year medical students for their family medicine rotations. It is an exceptional rotation at an unopposed residency to give you a first-hand look at family medicine and the life of a Cox FMR resident. Springfield is the core site for 3rd & 4th year rotations for MU, KCOM and KCU. While students from those schools will have the opportunity to rotate with Cox FMR and other departments in the system, students from schools all across the country are considered for rotation spots within the residency. Audition rotations are also encouraged for fourth year medical students during interview season September-January.
- We accept student rotations for 2 or 4 weeks in length from August to June each year. We do not host students in July.
- It is recommended to schedule your rotation 6-9 months in advance as the schedule fills up quickly.
- There must be an existing agreement between the residency and the student’s medical school.
- You will work with a variety of physicians during the rotation across several settings. The rotation will consist of one week inpatient, one week OB, and two weeks ambulatory clinic. You will attend morning reports, noon conferences, and academic sessions with residents, along with ethics and humanities presentations.
Contact Paula Reeves at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your rotation.
Pre-Med students can be scheduled for shadow experiences between the hours of 9-5 Monday – Friday. The student will shadow an attending or resident in a clinic session. Sessions are 9am-12pm and 1pm-5pm. The residency has hosted students from Drury, MSU, and Evangel and assisted students in gaining up to 40 shadow hours needed for medical school application.
Contact Paula Reeves at email@example.com to schedule a shadow experience.
We can only host medical students and pre-med students in the residency. CoxHealth may be able to assist those interested in other shadow or rotation experiences; PA, NP, etc.
